Genetic Reconstruction Test

Genetic reconstruction is a complicated series of DNA tests that can often be performed when an alleged father is unavailable for paternity testing and other genetic tests, such as grandparent DNA testing, have been eliminated as possible testing options to indirectly determine who the father of a child is.

By comparing a child’s DNA profile to those of several known relatives of the alleged father, genetic reconstruction DNA testing can determine whether the child is biologically related to the alleged father’s family members. The tested parties, in turn, can interpret the test results as an indirect indication of whether or not the child is biologically related to the unavailable alleged father.

A genetic reconstruction test requires the participation of several individuals.

  • If the child’s mother is available for testing, we will need to test her, the child, and at least two close relatives* of the unavailable alleged father.
  • If the child’s mother is not available for testing, we will need to test the child and at least three close relatives* of the unavailable alleged father.

* Close relatives are defined as the biological parents and full siblings of the alleged father.

Delivery of results takes 14 business days once we have received the sample.
